================================= Tutorial: the PSPClass2 logo http://members.xoom.com/logo.html ================================= In general ---------- This tutorial is made for Paint Shop Pro version 5.x I have a printable version (this file, 6K) and the .psp file (zipped at http://members.xoom.com/pspclass2/bin/logotut.zip, 198K)) if you want them. Foreground color is white and background color is black in this tutorial (unless mentioned otherwise). 1. - Choose picture ------------------- A great source of wonderfull digital photographs of flowers can be found at: http://www.shelleys.net/ I took one of Shelley's 'Balloon Flowers' (and send her an email I did AND gave her credit on the bottom of this page :o). The image had a frame around it, which I removed: with the selection tool (rectangle) I selected only the photo and then copied and pasted as a new image (size 627x467). 2. - Make square ---------------- Then I resized the new image to make it square: Image - Resize resize all layers checked, maintain ratio UNchecked, pixel size 400x400 3. - Select background ---------------------- With the selection tool (rectangle) I selected a part of the upper left of the background. To select almost everything of the background I used Selections - Modify - Select Similar. With the Shift key pressed and using the selection tool I selected all missing parts (you don't have to be THAT precise, if you miss a spot or two, no problem). Once again Select Similar. Be careful not to select anything of the flowers, ONLY the background should be selected. If some part of the flowers is selected, undo your last action (Ctrl-Z), OR keep the Ctrl-key pressed while using the selection tool to remove these spots from the selection. 4. - Blur background and resize ------------------------------- Selection - Modify - Expand 1 pixel Selection - Modify - Feather 10 pixels Image - Blur - Gaussian Blur radius 8 Select none Image - Resize resize all layers checked, maintain ratio checked, pixel size 250x250 5. Prepare quadrants -------------------- Divide the image in four quadrants: create a new layer and name it 'quadrants' Double click selection tool: left: 0, right: 125, top: 0, bottom: 125, custom size and position checked Flood fill this quadrant (#1) with solid white (solid color, match mode None, tolerance 0, opacity 100, sample merged UNchecked) Double click selection tool: left: 125, right: 250, top: 125, bottom: 250, custom size and position checked Flood fill this quadrant (#4) with solid white (solid color, match mode None, tolerance 0, opacity 100, sample merged UNchecked) 6. Hide quadrants-layer ----------------------- Now turn off visibility of this layer, you'll only need it to quickly select a quadrant of the image. When you need to select a quadrant during this tutorial: activate this layer, with the magic wand (match mode RGB, tolerance 0, feather 0, sample merged UNchecked) select the appropriate quadrant and turn off visibility of this layer again. 7. - Bleached quadrant #1 ------------------------- Add a new layer and call it 'white'. Select quadrant #1 (see 6.), activate layer 'white' and flood fill selection with white (solid color, match mode None, tolerance 0, opacity 100, sample merged UNchecked). Select none. In the layers palette: slide the opactity of the 'white' layer to 50. If you're not able to set it at 50 exact, press the left or right arrow on your keyboard. This should do the trick. 8. - Add first txt-line ----------------------- With the txt-tool add type: I used Arial Narrow, Bold, Size 22 and antialias and floating checked. Move txt into place and keep this selection active! 9. - Cut txt in half -------------------- Method 1: With the selection tool (rectangle) and the Ctrl-key pressed cut the txt selection in half: start at (125,0) and end at (250, 125). Method 2: With Ctrl-key pressed: select quadrant #2 (see 6.) The left half of the txt now is selected and the txt is defloated on the 'white' layer. Keep this selection active! 10. - Punched txt ----------------- Now we punch out the letters from the white quadrant: Edit - Clear Select none. 11. Second txt-line ------------------- For the second txt-line go through steps 8. to 10. again. This time I used type: Arial Narrow, Bold, Size 28. 12. Bleached quadrant #3 ------------------------ Create a new layer and name it 'black'. Select quadrant #3 (see 6.), activate layer 'black' and flood fill selection with black (solid color, match mode None, tolerance 0, opacity 100, sample merged UNchecked). You can right click in the selection, because your background color is black. Select none. In the layers palette: slide the opactity of the 'black' layer to 50. If you're not able to set it at 50 exact, press the left or right arrow on your keyboard. 13. - Colored quadrant #2 ------------------------- Add a new layer called 'color'. Select quadrant #2 (see 6.), activate layer 'color' and flood fill selection with a purple-ish color (solid color, match mode None, tolerance 0, opacity 100, sample merged UNchecked). I used #B9A5D1 (R185, G165, B209). Select none. In the layers palette: set the layer blend mode to 'color'. 14. - Add third txt-line ------------------------ Add a final layer, name it 'txt'. With the txt-tool add type: I used Copperplate Gothic, Bold, Size 36 and antialias and floating checked. Move txt into place and select none. The logo is finished!
